Gayan Samaj Deval Club of Kolhapur, is an Educational Charitable Public Trust, established with the objective to preserve, promote and propagate further the heritage of Indian Classical Music, Dance and Drama.
It is formed by the amalgamation of two institutions namely Karveer Gayan Samaj, established in 1883 and Deval Club, established in 1893. The amalgamation took place in the year 1946, the aims and objectives of both the institutions being the same.
To achive the objectives Gayan Samaj Deval Club regularly organizes the conserts of Classical music and dance, encourages new theatre productions, offers the methodical education of Classical Music, Dance and Drama, and arranges various events to promote liking in the society towards these art forms.
A large art loving cross section of the society is always anxious to join the Club. The institute offers them various options of membership, such as, (1) Honorable Patron ship, (2) Patron ship, (3) Life Membership and (4) Annual General Membership. As on today, the total strength of membership is around 500.
Gayan Samaj Deval Club of Kolhapur, is duly registered under The Bombay Public Trusts Act 1950. The registration no is 7E/1883(KPR).
It is a matter of great pride for the club that His Highness Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shri Shahu Maharaja, the visionary king of Kolhapur State is the 1st patron of the club. He offered generous support to the club activities and laid the foundation of the stability of the club.
The club is ever grateful to the selfless services rendered by the generations of the artists and the art lovers, starting with Baba Deval, the main founder of the club; Pt. Govindrao Tembe, an eminent musician and the all round artist; Sangeet Samrat Ustad Alladiyan Khan, the founder of Jaipur Gharana of Hindustani Music; and Pt. Jagannathbuva Purohit alias Gunidas, the great Guru of Agra Gharana.
